We Broke Records Again!!

See 2008 5K Walk Highlights Slideshow

FUN!!   Great Music!!    Doggies!!    Clowns!!    Face Painting!!    Balloon Hats!!    FUN!!

Over 1500 participants gathered at Liberty Station for a fun, record breaking morning, raising over $173,000 to Fight Parkinson’s Step by Step, and exploring the new NTC Park in the process.

After DJ Eric Lund got the crowd warmed up and in party spirits to the sounds of some great music, 10News Anchor Hal Clement hollered “go”, and they were off – some walking, some running, some being pushed, and some trotting along on their leash along the scenic route by the water, raising funds to improve quality of life for those with Parkinson’s and having a blast in the process. Our faithful clowns Tango and LoMax added to the day’s fun, with face painting and balloon art for the children. While strolling through the new park, participants enjoyed the swing and jazz sounds of live music by Swing West.

Thanks to the efforts of more than 90 teams, this was the most successful walk in our history, sealing our reputation as one of the county’s fastest growing walks.

The website will remain active and able to accept donations to support your favorite walker or team for the next couple of months.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? Half of Walk proceeds support valuable programs and services for local families and half goes to the American Parkinson Disease Association to be used exclusively for funding promising medical research seeking more effective treatments and a cure for the disease.

WHY WE WALK Parkinson's disease affects movement and gets worse over time. There is no cure, but promising research is underway. Symptoms include slowness of movement, loss of balance and coordination, tremor, stiffness, and uncontrolled movement. Parkinson's affects more than 1.5 million men, women, and young adults in the U.S., with 50,000 new cases diagnosed every year!
